Undeterred by the troubles of Google Glass, Snapchat has set up a firm called Spectacles to sell the device later this year.
The glasses will cost $130 (£100) and are aimed at young consumers who are already avid users of Snapchat.
Snapchat itself will be rebranded with the company renaming itself Snap, The inbuilt camera will be powered by a battery capable of lasting a day. The footage itself will be recorded in a format will be viewable in any orientation.
On the front of the glasses will be a light which will show when the camera is recording.
Evan Spiegel, the Snapchat’s creator, told the Wall Street Journal that he had been inspired to launch the product following a holiday in California.
We were walking through the woods, stepping over logs, looking up at the beautiful trees.
"And when I got the footage back and watched it, I could see my own memory, through my own eyes - it was unbelievable.
