A snake catcher has warned residents that recent wet weather could result in an increased number of snakes slithering into homes through roofs, pet doors or even air-conditioning vents.
Ian Renton, from Snakes Away Services, has warned snake activity in Adelaide is expected to rise as a rainy Spring has given mice and rats plenty of food, which in turn attracts more snakes to the area.
He has removed highly venomous snakes, including brown and red belly back snakes, from residential areas across Adelaide - with some surprising residents by falling through the roof.
'People leave their doors open or snakes come in through pet doors or air conditioning systems,' Mr Renton told ABC News.
A one and a half metre eastern brown snake was removed from a gap under a retaining wall in Campbelltown, in Adelaide's north east, last week, with Mr Renton warning SA Ambulances are receiving daily call outs for bites.
A red-bellied black snake was also removed from a Ridgehaven home, and another from the roadway in Dernacourt, which Mr Renton said could have 'proved to be a fatal situation'.
